Example: Washing Machines – Criteria Transformation

Common assumption of many MADM is that all criteria are maximal. This assumption is not met in the washing machines model. Example: Washing machines - Decision Matrix. The criteria transformation involves only the minimal criteria. The part of criteria transformation is a change of their names.

2 electric power consumption kW per one washing cycle Saved electric power  kW per one washing cycle ( in comparison with the variant with highest electric power consumption) 3 water consumption litres per one washing cycle Saved water litres per one washing cycle ( in comparison with the variant with highest water consumption) 5 Cost price of washing machine CZK Saved cost price CZK ( in comparison with the most expensive variant)

Appropriate columns of the decision matrix are than:

 f2 f3 f5 0,89 39 39990 1,05 54 22990 1,1 59 19990 1,15 59 17990 1,05 52 21590 1,3 72 14490 0,94 41 27990 1,3 72 14390 1,2 59 16390 1,25 74 15990

STEP 1: In each column find the column maximum (marked in the above table):

STEP 2:Transforrm each element in each column. The transformed decision matrix A thereinafter:
